Guest Tips

One cool way to travel in style like a local and beat traffic: just take full advantage of the Khlong Saen Saep Express Boat. The nearby Phanfa Leelard pier can get you connected to the city’s canal network. This is no tourist cruise—that fast running water bus does the job. A few baht take you from the old town to modern shopping malls in Pratunam and Siam in no time at all. It’s a great, sometimes soaking, and total Bangkok experience.

To really enjoy the local food scene, it’s best to get away from the tourist-centric restaurants on Khaosan Road. A very good tip is to walk through the streets and alleys around your hotel, especially close to the canal and Wat Bowonniwet. There are authentic street food stalls and small family-run eateries that are popular with locals, serving incredibly cheap Thai food that’s delicious and very refreshing to your taste buds. And this is where you will get your flavors in the best way.

For something a bit more memorable, consider visiting one of the roof bars in the old center. Sure, the big sky bars are in innovative Sukhumvit, but there is authentic good ‘n’ easy vibe there is quite a few alternatives near Khaosan with great panoramic views of lightened Golden Mount and co. Having a beer, watching the sundown over the old city, that’s a great magical experience.

Lastly, travelers staying at this hotel must either travel light or ask for a room on the first floor. The hotel is housed in an ancient structure devoid of a lift, so dragging a heavy suitcase up several flights of steep stairs after a trudge all day long is quite daunting. By folding up a backpack or tiny, light duffel, you can greatly ease your coming and going and better suit the modest, budget-friendly hotel.
